Active-X

I have decided to focus more on the home computer user and what precautions he or she should take while using a home or work computer to avoid being attacked.

I will start off with Active-X controls. These are little nasty things that can get you into a lot of trouble. Have you ever been to a website that throws out a drop down bar from the top of your internet browser that says something like, "To get this website/feature to work you need to install and Active-X control."

Whenever you see this RUN!!! Unless, you're getting this message from a reputable site such as Microsoft. Then again you may want to check out Microsoft to see if they are legit too :)

Anyway, never mess with these because they allow hackers to completely take over your computer with or without your knowledge of it!!! Remember that most of the time hackers don't want you to know that they have taken over your computer because they want you to watch what you are doing or use your computer in a future DDoS attack against a corporation.
